Florida Vacation │ Vintage Airport Things

Last week, I hopped on a plane to Jacksonville, FL to visit one of my best friends.

We had a fabulous time and visited all over Jacksonville as well as took a quick trip to St. Augustine and Amelia Island.

St. Augustine Florida Street

My past experience with Florida is negligible. Orlando thirty years ago and Miami for one night to board a cruise boat the next day.

Amelia Island Shore

So this trip felt educational. My husband and I loved it. St. Augustine is the oldest city in America - and that’s just so impressive. It's nice to know that America has some history even if it’s “only” 500 years old.

The Jacksonville airport had some vintage vignettes in their breezeway which was fun to peruse. I saw several things in the ‘70s boxes that I had sold. From dresses to Pan Am bags, vintage airport ephemera is so much fun to look at.

We had a long layover in Denver. I snapped this peaceful photo, reminding me that despite the chaos in airports, there is also calm.

Vintage Haul │ Thrifted Finds October 29, 2024

Yesterday's little thrift haul was nice. The perfect fall essentials:

  • one vintage '70s Aran Irish cardigan
  • three vintage '70s bandanas
  • one vintage '60s belt
  • one vintage '90s belt
  • one vintage '80s Banana Republic trousers
  • one vintage '80s/'90s Carmel sweatshirt
  • one vintage '90s 505 jeans
Hope your autumnal vibes are strong right now. Our mornings are finally cold out here in Northern California and rain is on its way. I can wear sweaters and boots now and I'm one happy gal.

Vintage belt
These old belts are amazing and usually from Mexico - late '60s to early '70s. Amazing quality and craftmanship.

Vintage sweater
Isn't this a cute sweatshirt? Carmel, CA sweatshirt.

Vintage Airport Photo

I scrolled through to this photo the other day on Facebook. If only people dressed like this when flying anymore. They treated flying like it really was special back then.
Guess what? It's still special! Getting from one place to another via an airplane is remarkable.

I'm off to visit a great friend of mine who now lives in Florida, today.
While I may not look like this, I sure won't be wearing slippers or sweats. Ha. Methinks this is early, '60s? Perhaps late '50s.
A little class goes a long way. (First class, that is...)
Bon voyage!

Vintage Haul │ Thrifted Finds October 22, 2024

Yesterday's finds were a lively but traditional bunch.

  • vintage '90s denim pair of Ralph Lauren overalls
  • vintage '90s denim jacket
  • vintage '80s /'90s sweatshirt
  • vintage '90s belt
  • vintage '80s San Diego mug
This color scheme makes me happy. I love denim and sell a lot of denim, so being able to keep up with that desire for my shop makes it a great day. That mug is the wild card of the bunch. Ha.

Headed to the shop ASAP.

Have a great rest of your week. ♥

Fall Among Us 2024

Morning light through trees

The temperatures are finally where they should be. Mornings in the '40s, highs in the '70s (and dropping) - that's the kind of fall I'm ready for and have eagerly anticipated.

The morning sunrise through the trees always makes me happy. Such glorious light; such impressive appearances from such unassuming trees along my trails. It's quite miraculous.

Happy fall, everyone. Enjoy your weekend.

Vintage '80s Levi's Denim Jacket with Sherpa Lining

My latest Levi’s acquisition is this beautiful faux sherpa-lined denim trucker jacket. Levi's has been making the "trucker type 3" style for almost 60 years. The sherpa-lined ones are their winter line edition of the trucker jacket.

I’ve only thrifted one other in the last 14 years. While they may seem common online, sourcing them in the wild is quite difficult. It’s like discovering a rare rhino. They seem common because everyone knows about them but are in fact very elusive.

I own a similar one. They are incredibly warm and stylish. This one is from the 1980s and is in excellent condition. It's a men's small that can also act as a women's medium and it's in the shop.

Vintage Mug Monday | Cindy Farmer Dog Mug

Isn't this mug adorable?
The image is by Cindy Farmer, from 1986.

The sweet pup kind of kooks like a Bernese Mountain Dog or a Newfoundland... or neither or both.
Regardless, this adorable pottery mug (by Robinson Ransbottom) needed to be front and center today for Vintage Mug Monday.

May your mug be vintage and your coffee hot (and endless)...

Annual Church Garage Sale Haul 2024

Every year, my church has a huge garage sale, where all proceeds - from donations made by attendees - go to help local homeless outreach programs.

It's always a fabulous time. There are many things to search for, dig through, and discover as buried treasure - feeling slightly like a pig looking for truffles. It's a sure fun time. Nothing like a big old garage sale to get my vintage juices flowing.

Flat lay of vintage items

I found a few things, most going to my vintage shop. And the Pyrex? Well, that's one for me to keep (I didn't have this one. Hooray!)

Here's what I got:

  • a vintage '80s wool skirt
  • a vintage '80s wool sweater
  • a vintage '80s wallet
  • a vintage '50s silver mesh purse
  • a vintage '60s pair of faux fur snow boots
  • a vintage '70s bandana
  • a vintage '70s Autumn Harvest 403 Pyrex Bowl (for me)
  • a vintage 80s adorable (Bernese?) dog mug

Plus a candle and dish towel. Ten items for $10. Can't beat that.

I volunteered two years ago for this event, and plan on doing it next year (this year didn't line up right with my schedule.) It's so fun to shop at these events and even more fun to help set up.

Until the next vintage haul, my vintage friends, have a great day. ♥

Silverado Resort Hotel and Spa in Napa Valley

My husband and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary just this week. I have officially been married longer than I was single and that thought is a bit surreal. Because I sure still feel 24 years old.

We had a fun drive to the Napa Valley, went to a wine tasting at Baldacci Vineyards (incredible reds available), and stayed at the Silverado Resort and Spa.

Silverado Hotel

This was the first time my husband played golf there, but I've been to the spa at least four or five times over the last 15 years, so this was a familiar haunt. One day (when I'm better), I'd like to golf with my husband.

Silverado Spa

However, the spa was just as wonderful for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the mint clay wrap I requested alongside their steam and sauna rooms and jacuzzi tub. I felt very spoiled. And a bonus to going off-season, I practically had the whole place to myself. I spent a leisurely 4-hour stay there while my husband played 18 holes.

Spa at Silverado Resort

The resort is quite massive, with two golf courses, a restaurant and bar, and all the amenities you could want. Tennis and pickleball courts are available and as I mentioned, the spa is five-star. There's a reason I keep going back. There's also a fitness center at the spa as well as a salon, cafe, and a lap pool outside in serene and spa-like settings.

Baldacci Vineyards Wine Tasting

It was a short and sweet trip, but it provided the perfect amount of rejuvenation and celebration needed to enjoy a wonderful 24th anniversary. The wine tasting at Baldacci Vineyards was a treat. Sure, we could've done more tastings, but we had such a generous helping at Baldacci, that we were set! Highly recommend this winery.

The Silverado Hotel and Resort is a classic. I'm grateful to have gotten to go.

Vintage Coffee │ Vintage French Photo

Came across this wonderful photo from 1925.

It's women drinking coffee in a cafe in Paris.

Love everything about it. Friends and coffee and Paris.

Their shoes are perfect, too.

Happy Friday. (TGIVF.)

A Manhattan Cocktail

Earlier this year, for Father's Day, I made my husband his favorite drink: the Manhattan.

Now, we don't make mixed drinks often. We normally just drink wine if we drink at all, and he'll occasionally have a beer. But he does like a good rye whiskey which is the base for this cocktail.

I don't have a favorite drink (okay, maybe a White Russian if someone really twists my arm - heavy cream, please) but my husband is pretty fond of a good Manhattan.

So, I made him one. It turned out nicely. And because I so rarely make them, I took a photo of it.

Now, I'm no mixologist, but I think this one turned out beautifully. And four months later, I'm letting you know about it. ♥

Turkeys on the Trails

Fall is here when the turkeys take to the fields and trails near my home.

They tend to hibernate in the summer (hunker down and reserve their strength) and then come out in full force as soon as autumn arrives.

They tear up our lawns mercilessly looking for their next meal. Not even our coyotes or mountain lions care to stalk them. It seems they have no predators here in Sacramento.

But, as annoying as they are, I still like having them around. They bring in the season.

And as we have another hundred-degree day despite the calendar saying it's autumn, I'll take all the help we can get. The turkeys say it's fall.

Now, Mother Nature needs to actually read the memo.

Vintage '40s Beau Brummel Corduroy Shirt

Clothing from the 1940s is on the rare side. I mean, these are pieces that have lived over eighty years. They're no spring chickens!

Holes happen, wear, age, patina... and yet, there are always a few pieces that make it past their "four-score" expiration date.
These are the pieces that make my heart beat rapidly like an idiot.

This shirt is one of them. Vintage corduroy, with all of her original buttons, and a loop collar.
She's a beauty.

The label is just beautiful, too.

She has a few minor scrapes and wear, but overall, she is in wonderful condition for her years.

And willing to last a few decades more with your love and care.

Vintage Haul │ Thrifted Finds October 1, 2024

Today's thrifted finds are extremely small.

Just one item: a vintage 2001 pair of Old Navy Overalls.

Some days, the pickins are slim.

And that's okay.

Vintage '70s Embroidered Levi’s Chambray Shirt

Embroidered chambray shirts were all the rage in the late '60s to early '70s. And now, the resurgence of their popularity is back.

While new manufacturers have their own version for today, there's nothing quite like the original.

I found this Levi's chambray last week and am thrilled. While these shirts were everywhere decades ago, and you may be able to find quite a few online, sourcing them "in the wild" is rare.

I stumble across one - maybe two - every year. That's it. So this one was a fun find.

I love the teepee on the left shoulder and the strawberries are awfully cute, too. It's roughly a men's medium or a women's large.

In the shop.
